CARTERET: Thirty vehicles were destroyed during an early-morning fire at an auto-salvage business, police said. Authorities were dispatched to Insurance Auto Auctions, 700 Federal Blvd., shortly after 1:30 a.m. Monday in response to a report of a blaze.

Authorities probe fire in Carteret auto yard (The Star-Ledger)
Thirty cars in a Carteret salvage yard were destroyed and another 30 were scorched by a fire early yesterday that raged for 90 minutes before firefighters were able to get it under control.

IBM profit up 12% to $2.26B (Orlando Sentinel)
International Business Machines Corp.'s second-quarter earnings rose 12 percent and beat Wall Street forecasts, largely on the strength of IBM's software division and improvement in its services unit. From April through June, Armonk, N.Y.-based IBM earned $2.26 billion, $1.55 a share, on revenue of $23.8 billion. Last year, it earned $2.02 billion, $1.30 a share, on revenue of $21.9 billion.
