Extended warranties typically can and do save you money in the long run. If you're going to lease the vehicle and turn it in at the end of the lease period then this extra cost is probably not for you. If you purchased your vehicle, you may want to consider one based on your planned length of ownership. While any extended warranty may seem expensive at the time of purchase, they typically pay for themselves for long-term owners, and some even have a buy-back clause that makes them a "can't lose" investment.

2004 Toyota Tacoma PreRunner from North America - Off Topic Comments (Carsurvey.org)
Just another over rated Toyota. People should stop buying based on myths. I would rather buy a foreign vehicle. I would rather pay the extra money for transmission and have it last much longer in the foreign truck than in an American vehicle that will need it much sooner.

Before we get into more detail it's important to understand the different parts of an auto warranty. It's also good to know the difference between a new car warranty and an extended auto warranty. A typical new car warranty has two parts: the "bumper to bumper" warranty, which covers everything except the "wear" items such as brakes and tires; and the powertrain warranty that covers all the parts that make the car move, such as the engine and transmission.
